Civil War Quilt Contest

Do you have a passion for quilt making? Do you love American history?

The Buttonwoods Museum of Haverhill and the North Andover Historical Society are partnering to sponsor a Civil War Quilt Contest with entries being displayed this September. Entries will display historic fabrics or styles and serve as a part of our yearlong celebration of the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War.

The North Andover Historical Society will be presenting two great programs for learning about what goes on behind the scenes here, and how you can become a part of it!

Behind the Scenes: North Andover & The Civil War
Thursday, March 29 – 10am to 11:30am

What do we know about North Andover and it’s people during the American Civil War? Join us to explore the background of our exhibit, “Keep the Home Fires Burning”. Member Ticia Robak will join us to discuss her research on General Isaac Ingalls Stevens. We will also show Maria Rea’s video on George Rea, who died in the infamous Andersonville Prison.
Members free; non-members $5–or join that day and receive a $5 discount on your new membership! Snow-date: April 5th.

School Program Volunteer Open House
Wed, April 11 – 10am to 12pm and Thursday, April 12 – 10am to 12pm

Come join us for the fun! You will experience a modified run through one of our most popular hands on school program and learn how you can get involved.

Online Payments Now Accepted!

The North Andover Historical Society is pleased to announce the availability of online payments! Using our website and PayPal we may now accept both payments for memberships online as well as donations of all shapes and sizes. We hope that this will prove to be a more convenient method for our members and supporters, especially those who are Eco-concious or remotely located.

Barn Fundraiser Update And More

Our generous supporters have continued to send donations to help fund our Barn Project. We are pleased to announce that we have raised $1,428 toward our $25,000 goal. We hope that those who have not yet had an opportunity to contribute will please take a moment to donate to this fund today by sending a check to the North Andover Historical Society, 153 Academy Road, North Andover MA.

New Educational Map Received

Kevin Varga, a member of local Scout Troop 82 has created an interactive map of North Andover for us. Kevin has worked on this project for over a year as part of his Eagle Scout requirements. The map features informative lights, magnetic landmarks and will be heavily utilized in our educational programs. Stop on by to see this great addition to our exhibit space!

Barn Project Continues!

Efforts to protect the Parson Barnard House Carriage Barn have continued as trees and brush surrounding the barn have been removed thanks to the generous support of our members and supporters! This marks the completion of the first phase of this project as we look forward to replacing the aging roof of this historic barn.

Happy Holidays from all of us at the North Andover Historical Society! We would also like to remind potential visitors that the Society headquarters will be closed for our annual winter shutdown from December 24th through January 2nd.

Winter Hours: Offices close promptly at 4 pm—part of the energy saving initiative-effective December 5th through the end of February

Remember that the North Andover Historical Society follows the North Andover School schedule of closings, delayed openings and early closures.

More progress on phase one of our fund raising drive : we now have received $750 to help fund tree removal, estimated at $3000. Look for your invitation to celebrate the Carriage Barn’s 200th birthday in our next newsletter which will arrive during December. Phase two, funding the roof replacement, will begin this spring.
