Happy Holidays from us all at the North Andover Historical Society!

WINTER CAFE HOURS: Wednesday - Sunday: 8-2 | MUSEUM HOURS: Wednesday - Sunday: 8-2

Established in 1913, the North Andover Historical Society remains dedicated in its mission to discover, preserve, and share the unique history of North Andover. Throughout the years, our mission has evolved, yet one thing remains unchanged - our commitment to bringing history to life for our community in North Andover, the Merrimack Valley, and beyond.

We invite you to join us! Visit our Stevens Center Building, across from the town common to explore our 1646 Bookstore or enjoy a meal at Diane’s Café on the Common or check our exhibits.

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on the support of members and donors. Your support enables us to continue important mission focused activities, such as ensuring the care of our collections, conducting research for interpretation and exhibits, and preserving our beloved historic properties, and most importantly, helping to continue to save and share North Andover’s history for the next generation!

Don’t miss out - become a member today and enjoy membership benefits.

Join us in January for these exciting and important presentations because indigenous history isn’t only for November!

The Massachuset Nation: An Evening with Thomas ‘Spirit Tree’ Green

Mr. Green is a descendent of the Neponset band of Massachuset who gathered at the praying town of Ponkapoag. He is a Tribal Council Member and Chairman of the tribe’s History Preservation Committee, as well as an artist in traditional bead and shell regalia.

Join us as Mr. Green speaks about interactions between the indigenous people of the Massachuset Nation and European traders. Learn about the hierarchy of the bloodline Sac’hemship just prior to English colonization and the day to day life of the Massachuset people.

Dawnland & Bounty: Award-Winning Documentaries

For decades, child welfare authorities have been removing Native American children from their homes to “save them from being Indian.” In Maine, the first official Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the United States begins a historic investigation. Dawnland goes behind-the-scenes as this historic body grapples with difficult truths, redefines reconciliation, and charts a new course for state and tribal relations.

Dawnland aired on Independent Lens on PBS in November 2018 and 2021, reaching more than two million viewers. The film won a national Emmy® Award for Outstanding Research in 2019 and made the American Library Association’s list of 2020 Notable Videos for Adults.
