BRAD WAKEMAN
Brad grew up in North Andover and has been active in historic preservation for over 30 years. He led the effort to enact the Community Preservation Act in North Andover, the first community to do so. Brad was one of the first people in the Commonwealth to be appointed to a Community Preservation Committee and served on North Andover’s Committee between 2002 and 2016.
Brad led efforts to protect several land parcels now enjoyed by the public, including: Carter Hill and Half Mile Hill. He has also been an active member of the North Andover Historical Society, the Ridgewood Cemetery and the North Andover Improvement Society.
He and his wife, Wendy, are proud owners of a historic home in North Andover and actively preserve and share it.
On September 21st, we celebrated Brad’s impressive commitment to history and preservation at a gala reception at the LANAM club.

North Andover, MA – The North Andover Historical Society is proud to announce Brad Wakeman as their 2023 Lifetime Preservation Award recipient. Each year, the Historical Society honors a North Andover resident who has shown exemplary commitment to the preservation of our town's historic heritage and community spaces.
Brad was honored at a gala reception on September 21, s2024 at the LANAM club in Andover. All proceeds from this event go toward supporting the North Andover Historical Society, a non-profit organization that serves North Andover and the surrounding communities through educational and public programming as well as through historical exhibits.
Brad Wakeman grew up in North Andover (North Andover High School ’82). He has been active in land conservation and historic preservation for over 30 years. In the 1990’s, Brad volunteered on North Andover’s Open Space Committee and in 2001 he was the Chair of Citizens for North Andover Preservation, which led the effort to pass the Community Preservation Act in North Andover.
North Andover was the first community to fully enact the Community Preservation Act. Brad was one of the first people in the Commonwealth to be appointed to a Community Preservation Committee and served on North Andover’s Community Preservation Committee between 2002 and 2016.
Brad led efforts to protect several land parcels now enjoyed by the public, including: Carter Hill, in collaboration with the Trust for Public Land (TPL), the first piece of open space in the Commonwealth protected with Community Preservation Act Funds; Half Mile Hill, working with Robert Dale Stevens and the Trust for Public Land.
Brad has been an active member of the North Andover Historical Society, previously serving as a Board Member and Treasurer. Currently, Brad is a Board Member and Treasurer of Ridgewood Cemetery, and serves as a Board Member for the North Andover Improvement Society. He and his wife, Wendy, are proud owners of a historic home in North Andover and actively preserve and share it.
