TALES FROM THE COLLECTIONS
Tales from the Collections
The Society collects in order to preserve the story of North Andover for use in research, educational programs, and exhibits from the 17th through 21st centuries. Our computer database has over 11,000 records with information on our collections including three dimensional objects, photographic material, and documents.
stories told by collections
The first story is from a deposition given by an unwed mother concerning the paternity of her child, dated 1737. The town was very concerned with such matters, not so much to punish the offenders but to establish financial responsibility for a child which might become a burden to taxpayers.
